As a management academic, Gary taught on a range of programmes primarily for post experience mature students; this is includes Diploma, BSc, MSc and MBA. Gary's main academic subject areas are: leadership, strategy, strategic implementation . Gary has also developed bespoke programmes based on client needs. Gary has worked with a range of organisations including: Ford, Toyota, Tata Steel (formerly Corus), BAe Systems, Rolls Royce and Thomas Cook. Gary also lectured on an Institute of Directors Course.
More recently Gary has been Programme Director for Advance HE's Strategic Leadership Programme, the Wales Higher Education Executive Leaders Programme, the Strategic Leadership Programme and the Wales [Higher Education] Governor Development Programme. Gary has also designed and delivered bespoke leadership and strategic leadership programmes for individual universities and departments and organisations such as Universities Wales, e.g. Research Mentoring for Senior Academics; Mapping the External Environment; Leading Change; Research Team Development; Team Development days.

Gary was involved from the outset in 2011 with the development and delivery of Welsh Crucible until he left Aberystwyth University in 2018, but he is still involved and delivers a guest lecture on the programme. Gary also developed researcher development courses at Aberystwyth University with content that covered the core needs of researchers in an accessible format.
Gary was Programme Director and facilitator for the two day induction of the EU funded Sêr Cymru II Research Fellowship induction programme. Gary has also developed and delivered programmes such as Research Mentoring for senior academic. Gary has also designed and delivered a Research Team Development one day programme.
